The
“World-Spirits 2008”
– tasting and rating of spirits from all over the world – will take place in
Klagenfurt from 9th to March
12th
2008. The “World-Spirits Festival” – the presentation of the prize-winning
products and classified distilleries – will be held during the GAST trade fair. In the run-up to these events, all restaurateurs, hoteliers, as well as
bar and bistro owners are invited to participate in the “Spirits Menu Contest”
of World-Spirits.
The
competition aims to strengthen the spirits culture in the catering trade and to
smarten things up a bit. Far too often, spirits are outshone by other beverages
on the menu and treated as “step-children”. Hence activities in this
culinary sector will be rewarded and, at the same times, spirits will be brought
into the limelight of epicurean consumption.
The
focus of appraisal will be on the following criteria:

diversity
of products
·
professional
description of products
·
professional
background information on the products
·
fair
calculation of spirits
·
content
and design of the menu
Organiser
Wolfram Ortner has created a special "World-Spirits Award" to
be awarded to the best menu on
March
9th at
6:00
pm. In addition, there will be national trophies and other attractive prizes for
the ten best participants (based on 50 entries), such as the participation in
tasting courses and a set of six spirits that
won prizes at the “World-Spirits“ competition.
The
competition will be held in cooperation with renowned catering media of the
German-speaking area, such as ÖGZ from Austria and NHGH
(Norddeutsche Hotel- und Gaststätten-Nachrichten) from Germany. Deadline for
entries is February 1st 2008; any recourse to courts of law is
