Klippenziege: New era in the world of gin

In December 2015, four friends captured the ‘spirit’ of an idea: they were thinking about gin. Nearly a year later a small batch was bottled by hand. The individuality of a gin lies in the combination of the botanicals, in this case it is the exotic selection: mate tea, goji berries, physalis and a hint of rose. The Klippenziege is a New Western Dry Gin, in which juniper plays the main role amongst the other botanicals.

It is produced in the Habbel Distillery, which guarantees excellent quality thanks to its experience – it was established in 1878 and is now in the family’s fourth generation. The former Korn distillery in Sprockhövel with adjoining farmland is now the largest fruit distillery in the Ruhr region, as a traditional manufacturer it stands out with its attention to detail. The entire manufacturing process at Klippenziege can also be observed on-site.

The bottle and the label are also special. Designer Levent Aydin drew it carefully by hand, and then digitalised it before perfecting it. First it is printed, then coated, then stamped and embossed. The elegant result stands for friendship, solidarity and love. Working together in a friendly and familiar atmosphere connects people with a passion for life who share one important belief: that the product should encourage people to slow down, allowing for mindful enjoyment.

At the World Spirits Award, there was silver for Mate Dry Gin.

Lucifer’s Gold is a devilishly good drink for people who are not afraid of the unfamiliar. The mix of Scotch grain whisky and Kentucky bourbon is considered prohibited – hence the name. Viva El Ron was a Cuban white rum whose recipe was developed over more than 150 years that everyone loved. The drink did not need a name, it was just called El Ron. One day the barrels were empty, but nobody knew the recipe – El Ron appeared to be lost. Sometime later, a young man found a box full of diaries, with stories spanning generations. The secret of El Ron was scribbled on the margins. He therefore kept trying until he succeeded in restoring the ‘white gold’. Viva El Ron!

Euphoria: Rediscovery of an inspiring drink

After being hidden for more than a century, a very old recipe has once again come to light: Artista has been reborn. The unusual story behind it starts in a dark attic, with a yellowed sheet of paper as the guardian of a secret: a bitter drink with an old-fashioned taste, referred to as the ‘quintessence of creativity’. The legend tells of painters, musicians and poets from the old continent, who enjoyed a mysterious, amber-coloured elixir in Livorno that was able to bring their most inspired works to life – somewhere between a meeting at a literary café and a walk along the famous coast of this exceptional town. Freed from taxes and other duties, it was populated by merchants, artists and seafarers of various cultures and origins. It was a port of people and goods, and a crossroads for ideas in particular, which was able to inspire many – even if they were just passing through.

Selected according to the old original recipe, the ingredients were rediscovered and reworked in the search for an elegant and enticing taste. 33 herbs, spices and extracts are traditionally processed to create an exclusive and absolutely timeless bitter. The result is an amber-coloured liqueur boasting a hint of aromatic lemon and a sweet and delicate lasting taste.
