Jim Beam Distillery – Bourbon straight on
Knob Creek is named after a rivulet in Kentucky, the home of President Abraham Lincoln. His steadfast attitude seems to serve as an example for this straightforward bourbon. The square ‘chemist’s bottle’ suits these traditional values perfectly, as does the striking label which is reminiscent of the old tradition of wrapping bottles in newspaper. To this day, a mixture of experience and craftsmanship is the recipe for success for the bourbon from Knob Creek.
The bourbon was at the peak of its success in 1919, when the nationwide prohibition of the sale, manufacture and transport of alcohol began – lasting until 1933. Following this, a new start was impossible for many distilleries; others couldn’t finance the customary long maturing process of the bourbon. This situation motivated Booker Noe to revive the traditional bourbon style from the time before the prohibition: rich in aroma, with discreet sweetness due to year-long maturation in strongly ‘toasted’ wooden barrels from American white oak. In 1950, he joined the family business – his mother was the daughter of Jim Beam, which meant bourbon was already in his blood – and completed his training as Master Distiller. With the small series of premium bourbon he launched, the term ‘batch’ (small) was established and revolutionised the industry. His son, Fred Noe, continues with this clear strategy: “I learnt the business from scratch, listened to my father and learnt on the job. I know what it means to make perfect bourbon. Each bottle is a reflection of my family.” Since 1992, the Knob Creek brand has represented these values with the perfect combination of tradition and top quality.
A golden trio was successful at the World Spirits Award: Knob Creek Rye Whiskey Small Batch, Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon and Knob Creek Straight Bourbon.

Gin of Hearts: Social project as a homage to Ghana
The former German national football team player Gerald Asamoah launched a gin project in autumn 2021 along with Michaela Habbel and his friends Timo Marner and Jens Conrad. The name Gin FOURTEEN is a reference to Gerald’s jersey number 14, which has a great significance for him. Due to his professional career, especially at FC Schalke and as a football manager, Gerald Asamoah feels a close bond with the Ruhr region. He wasn’t actually a gin drinker, but he came into contact with the subject through a thank-you project for donations to his foundation for children with heart conditions. The foundations of Gin FOURTEEN were laid back then and positive feedback led to the idea of making it accessible to a wider public.
The production avoids artificial aromas and additives, using ingredients from responsible and sustainable cultivation. Mango and papaya are typical fruits for Gerald Asamoah’s home country of Ghana – the gin is a homage to his homeland and Africa. It is made at the Heinrich Habbel Distillery in the southern Ruhr region. Every bottle supports social projects, including the ‘my Boo Ghana School e.V.’, which enables children in the Ashanti region to attend school and was created by staff at my Boo GmbH, which along with the Yonso Project in Ghana makes bamboo bicycles in Ghana and Kiel.

Denis Duhme and Christian Leopolder: 3137 Vertical Limit London Dry Premium Gin
Two friends have fulfilled an unusual dream. Christian Leopolder has a small distillery in Kuchl near Salzburg. Denis Duhme trains sommeliers and sommelières in retail and gastronomy. The idea for an ‘extreme’ gin was born during a joint mountain hike, the basis of which is more than 30 self-collected botanicals from the mountains in Austria and South Tyrol up to 3,137 metres above sea level – hence the name. And because the Northern Alps are naturally different from the Southern Alps, two different gins were created. Distillation takes place in a small copper still in several stages. The result is a purist London Dry Gin with highly complex aromas and enormous length on the palate – handpicked & handcrafted – small batch distilled.
Nordalpen (Northern Alps) Gin has a spicy, herbal character. In addition to wild thyme, basil, rosemary, bay leaf and black pepper, masterwort and mountain pine are also present. Rowanberry, larch blossom and Swiss stone pine round off the interplay of aromas. Südalpen (Southern Alps) Gin has a Mediterranean-mountainous character and brings this sun-drenched region (with over 300 days of sunshine) to life. Amalfi lemon, white elderberry and mountain peach from South Tyrol form the basis. Liquorice, lavender and orange peel as well as sage, chestnut and acacia blossom, combined with pink pepper and olive, complete the complex aroma.
At the World Spirits Award, Gold was awarded to both 3137 Vertical Limit London Dry Premium Südalpen Gin and 3137 Vertical Limit London Dry Premium Nordalpen Gin.
