LA SU Gin: Exotic holiday feeling in a glass

Alexander Kayser and Christopher Schuh are true gin lovers and founders of the brand LA SU Gin – a registered brand of Expo Outline Messebau und Event GmbH in Altenstadt, with Alexander Kayser as the managing partner.

After exploring many trains of thought, it was clear to both of them that it had to be exotic. LA SU Gin is a premium handcrafted gin with a hint of fruity mango. Distilled in small batches, traditionally and without additives, it is made in one of the oldest distilleries in Europe. The mango gives it a special freshness and balances the tart notes of the spices perfectly. Next to the mango, LA SU evokes a sense of travel. Enjoy a holiday feeling and discover new taste sensations. The elaborate bottle design reflects a love of detail and certainly leaves an impression.

Fairytale Distillery: Gin as an affair of the heart

Thomas Gottwald and his team founded their Fairytale Distillery in 2018 in Ardelve, in the North West Highlands of Scotland, overlooking the lochs in the shadow of the mountains of the Isle of Skye. The heart of the distillery, the copper still, is located in a small witch’s cottage on an island in a pond.

Thomas’ collaboration with German botanists Martin and Stephan was to prove fruitful: within two years, the distillery achieved world-class status in 2020 for its handcrafted, exclusive gins that combine traditional ingredients with a subtle blend of locally available botanicals and herbs. An important component of the process is the use of spring water from the Brand Allt Mor na Dornie mountain stream. The combination of Martin and Stephan’s botanical expertise, Hans-Peter Schmidt’s copper still, Thomas’ attention to detail with the spring water is used to create the filtered and unfiltered gins that continue the success.

Some of the original gins were upgraded to Navy Strength versions; the higher alcohol content significantly improved both the taste and the aroma. Other versions have also been created, such as Classic, Oriental, Floral and Herbal Navy Strength. Two absinthe variants were added to the growing number of gins: the traditional La Fee Verte (green fairy) with an unconventional concept, and the La Fee Noire (black fairy), based on a wonderful recipe from the late 18th century.

At the World Spirits Award 2025, there was Gold for Highland Gin TOM and Navigator 57° 17', and Silver for The Dornie Dram and Highland Gin Infused Gin Red Fairy.

Maison Ferrand – A commitment to tradition in more than 60 countries

In 1989, entrepreneur Alexandre Gabriel met the Pierre Ferrand family, one of the oldest cognac-producing families in France. His vision was to produce cognac following traditional methods, with a personal stamp, to emphasise the character of the Grande Champagne region and create a Premier Cru de Cognac. Tradition and passion, excellent locations, professional distillation, precise storage and careful blending set new standards for traditional products.

“A great cognac should reflect its terroir. Above all, good healthy grapes from the best vineyards are needed. Then the wines are carefully distilled on the yeast, and the brandy is left to mature in old barrels for many years. There are no short cuts, but it makes such a heavenly difference and the result tastes so much better that it is worth the effort! At MAISON FERRAND, there has always been a commitment to this level of diligence and patience.”

The production location is the Château de Bonbonnet in Ars, in the department of Charente, in the middle of the vineyards. In the cellars, the various spirits are stored in cognac, port wine, whisky, sauternes or calvados barrels. This ancient ‘double ageing’ procedure yields outstanding quality. Cognac is distilled in winter in ten small copper stills (maximum 25 hl). The characteristic gin is distilled in spring, the rum varieties of the Plantation brand name, which play an important role, come from the Caribbean.

Maison Ferrand is co-owner of the Domaine Logis d’Angeac, a traditional distillery dating back to 1776. It also includes 110 hectares of vineyards at the heart of the Grande Champagne region.

At the World Spirits Award, there was gold for Pierre Ferrand Ambré, Cognac Ferrand 10 Générations, Citadelle No Mistake Old Tom Gin and Plantation Original Dark.
