2B Hemp Gin: Styrian gin experience
Two visionaries, Armin Breinl (doctor, drink creator, musician) and Wolfgang Thomann (gin maker), have created a completely new gin experience with real hemp powder: 2B HEMP GIN (inspired by AEIJST). On 17th November 2018, the two invited guests to the first tasting of 2B HEMP GIN in the AEIJST GIN distillery in St. Nikolai in the Sausal Valley.
Made from organic juniper berries, this innovative gin has an impressive, mild and fruity taste and a typical hemp note. Due to its unique aroma, it not only tastes good neat, but also creates a ‘wow’ effect in cocktails – as proven in the long drink Styrian Pale Gin AEIJST refined with 2B HEMP.
For thousands of years, hemp has been grown as a valuable plant, be it for rope, fabric, paper or as an active ingredient in ointments and tinctures. Hemp has always been highly valued for its medicinal properties, yet recently has been demonised as an addictive drug and has suffered under its ensuing prohibition, originating in the USA. These days hemp is regaining importance and is being used more as a luxury food as well as in medicine as a therapeutic agent.
The Lifestyle Trading company, run by Armin Breinl, is an innovative beverage producer, which is already known amongst trade professionals for its sugar-free ‘func- tional fruit drinks’. The drinks have a high fruit content (more than 50 per cent) and additional natural, vital substances and have an energising, relaxing and regenerative effect.
At the World Spirits Award, there was silver for 2B HEMP GIN.

Gurktaler: The mild Alpenkräuter and the fruity Alpen-Aperitif
Every year on 15th August, the herbs for Gurktaler Alpenkräuter are blessed in Gurk Cathedral. The herbs are grown in the Gurk Valley and in the cathedral garden, cut by hand from around mid-June and brought to the cathedral cloisters where they are checked for cleanliness, freshness and varietal purity. To make the liqueur, the selected herbs are soaked in alcohol for a few days in an exact ratio according to a secret recipe. During maceration, the ingredients and aromatic substances are leached out, the extract is blended in a strictly controlled ratio, and stored to mature. The branded product underlines the regional connection by supporting various local projects. Hiking trails have been developed in the Carinthian holiday region to enable guests to enjoy the unique landscape. In the ‘Gurk Valley herbal paradise’ you will also find inns and hostels that emphasise the theme.
Rossbacher is a piece of Austrian liqueur history. In 1897, Adolf Wunderlich founded a liqueur distillery in the 7th district of Vienna and worked on incorporating natural flavours into the products. The liqueur is made from herbs, roots and berries without any artificial additives. The secret lies in the preparation as well as in the ingredients; the intense flavour is achieved through a combination of maceration, percolation and distillation. The original recipe, still in strong demand today, provides precise instructions on which herbs to use and how to treat them. Invigorating herbal notes combine with citrus tones and a subtle sweetness to create a wholesome pleasure.
Gurktaler(Gurktaler Alpen Aperitif, Gurktaler DER MILDE Alpenkräuter) and Rossbacher won Gold at the World Spirits Award 2025.

Noroi Distillery: Newcomer from Quebec
Noroi was officially opened in February 2019 in Saint-Hyacinthe near Montreal. Here, a small team of five people are experimenting with exceptional spirits. For about a year they worked on a gin recipe that combines traditional distillation and cold distillation. The cold distillation allows various aromas to be preserved, which could otherwise be altered in conventional distilling methods. An orange liqueur was also developed, which smells and tastes like freshly squeezed oranges. When the first maceration of fresh oranges was distilled, everyone was astonished by the freshness of the result – and this unique taste simply had to be shared. Just recently, another unique product was created using the best ingredient Quebec has to offer: a liqueur made from 100% maple syrup.
Noroi distinguishes itself from other distilleries primarily with its equipment and its research and development department, which is constantly working on new innovations; for example, on a distillation vat that can distil at under 0°C. Thanks to the vacuum principle it is possible to reduce the internal pressure, and thus the boiling point of the alcohol.
At the World Spirits Award, there was gold for Maple Liqueur, and silver for Lemon & Lime Vodka and Apéritivo.
