Aromahopping: Botanical spirit from the Odenwald forest
The “Inge & der Honigbär” gin brand is produced by Aromahopping GmbH in Mosbach (Baden-Württemberg). Behind the concept is trained chef Eric Kletti, who has been working in the region since 2017 and develops his distillates according to culinary principles. The recipes are based on combinations of flavours familiar to the kitchen. The range currently comprises nine London Dry Gin varieties, which are produced in small batches. The products are numbered.
The foundation is a grain-based alcohol in combination with spring water. Characteristic to these distillates are unusual blends of botanicals, including mandarin and rosemary, vanilla and cherry or tomato and lemon. The botanicals are handpicked and undergo sensory testing before processing. After several days of maceration, they are processed in its own small distillery. The distillates are then matured in steel tanks before being bottled at 43% alcohol by volume. Around 120 bottles are produced per batch. Labelling and packaging are also done by hand. Sale is through specialist retailers, restaurants, catering businesses and hotels, as well as selected retail partners in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Tasting boxes and limited special editions are also available.
At the World Spirits Award, Silver was awarded to Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 03 – Amalfi lemon, Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 04 – sage blossom & orange, Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 05 – mandarin & rosemary, Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 06 – vanilla & cherry, Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 07 – Kaffir lime & cinnamon and Inge & der Honigbär Gin NO. 09 – tomato & lemon.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery: A pioneer in farm-to-flask distilling
Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery is an original craft distillery in British Columbia (BC) in Western Canada and is run by the Dyck family, who have been at home in the Okanagan Valley for five generations. The distillery was born from the idea of using 100% locally grown fruit and grain to produce world-class spirits, just a tractor ride away from the orchards and fields where the base ingredients grow. BC’s original farm-to-flask distillery now offers a selection of more than 50 internationally award-winning spirits, from single malts, BRBN bourbon-style, BC hopped and BC rye whiskies to gins, vodkas, fruit liqueurs, brandies, aquavit and even Taboo Genuine Absinthe.
Okanagan Spirits is led by Tyler Dyck, CEO of the Dyck family company, and Melissa Duncan, COO. When they’re not making world-class spirits, they spend their time modernising spirits policy in Canada. Their aim is to honour and support authenticity and terroir in everything they do – from farm to bottle. The passion, skill and creativity of master distillers Chris Burke and Francois Joubert are behind the successful variety of products and the absolute commitment to capturing the essence of the Okanagan Valley in every bottle. A visit to one of the distilleries is an unmissable experience when visiting the Okanagan Valley.
The World Class Distillery 2025 received Gold for Okanagan Cherry Liqueur, Okanagan Spirits Haskap Liqueur, Blackcurrant Liqueur 100% Craft, various single malt whiskies (1-MALT Barrelhouse Reserve, Laird of Fintry Rum Barrel Finish, Laird of Fintry Fortified Foch Finish, Laird of Fintry Fortified Foch Finish Cask Strength, Orchard Saison Whisky), Proof Whisky Collective Pear Brandy Barrel Aged, Bartlett Pear Brandy (Poire Williams), Proof Whisky Collective Pioneer Country Process and the cigar whisky Product of Okanagan Valley, Canada. Silver was awarded to Okanagan Spirits Raspberry Liqueur, Road’s End (a double-wood Pinot Noir finished bourbon-style whisky), Rye Whisky (finished in Maple-Brûlée casks), Amaro Classico 100% Craft and Cabin Gin (Green Label) 100% Craft.

Kweichow Moutai: China’s ‘national schnapps’ on the rise
Baijiu is the most popular alcoholic drink in China and Moutai the most famous brand, with a similar status to vodka in Russia or tequila in Mexico. Its origins go back over 2,000 years to the time of Emperor Wu of Han. These days, the national drink is frequently served at official state banquets and is used as the official state gift. Its protected source is the village of Maotai in the Guizhou province on the banks of the Chishui, the Red River. These days, more than 30,000 tons of the 53 percent alcohol Moutai are produced. In cooperation with Camus, a limited edition was launched as an homage to the greatest poets: after Li Bai in 2013, Du Fu followed in 2018. The elegant bottle showing a painting of a poem is made from the finest porcelain.
Traditional methods are used for the distillation of regional raw materials: organic sorghum and wheat and the best water. Fermentation takes place at high temperatures. During the production process, which takes a year, fresh grain is added twice to the boilers, then several boiling and fermentation processes take place. Every batch of the distillate is separated according to age, production cycle and aroma. It then matures slowly in terracotta containers and, during the storage period of at least five years, develops a fine soya aroma. Master blenders make sure that the characteristic, full flavour is preserved. The secret lies in the humid climate, the water from the Chishui, as well as in the distillation technique and maturing period.
At the World Spirits Award, there was double gold for Kweichou Moutai Du Fu Edition.

Aldi Ireland: Gin and whiskey in retail
Aldi Ireland has several top products in its spirit range: Boyle’s Gin from the Blackwater Distillery and Ardfallen Whiskey from the West Cork Distillery, in addition, Mo Chara Passionfruit & Mango Gin from the Old Carrick Mill.
The Blackwater Distillery has been an Aldi partner since 2016 and developed the private label Boyle’s Gin exclusively for the Irish and British retail market. The product volume of the Blackwater Distillery for Aldi has risen strongly in recent years, whereby 140,800 bottles of the gin series were sold in 2018. The successful gin brand is manufactured in Blackwater Valley, West Waterford, with selected imported ingredients as well as regional apples, blackcurrants and elderflower. CEO Peter Mulryan – former TV producer and author of the book ‘The Whiskeys of Ireland’ – explains, “The partnership with Aldi has helped us to increase turnover enormously, and also to have the security to invest and expand. This includes on-site bottling facilities and a visitor centre.” Ardfallen Whiskey from the West Cork Distillery got its name from the region in County Cork where the malted barley comes from, and is only manufactured in small batches. The business was founded in 2003 by childhood friends who started out with only two small stills they had bought in Switzerland. Now the largest distillery in the country, it currently employs over 80 staff and exports to around 70 countries.
At the World Spirits Award, there was Gold for Ardfallen 10 Year Old Whiskey and Boyle’s Gin, and Silver for Boyle’s Sloe & Damson Gin and Ardfallen Whiskey.
